My name is Pocket and I was born with a congenital heart disease.

As a child, I had a number of open heart surgeries, the last being when I was roughly four years old.

I have been very fortunate in that I have been able to lead a ‘normal’ life. I studied for a BA at university and subsequently went back to do a Masters.

Sadly now however, at the age of 34, my heart is beginning to fail. I was one of the first people in the world to have the type of heart surgery I did (more on this in a later post) which means my doctors have been unable to predict what my future holds.

I am currently waiting to be assessed for a heart transplant at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

I set up this blog and my Instagram page @mytinyticker to raise awareness of my condition. No one facing heart surgery – of any kind – should feel alone. It is my dream to ensure they don’t, whilst also to campaign for changes to be made to the system, so that others following in my footsteps won’t find the process as daunting as I have found it so far.

Please come on this journey with me. I have no idea what lies ahead but I want to share my story so that those awaiting heart surgery are not without guidance.

Please support me by following me on Instagram.

Many thanks for your help.

With love,

Pocket xxx
